The Guitar Hotel at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino rises above the skyline in Hollywood, Florida. The 450-foot, guitar-shaped hotel opened in 2019 as part of a major resort expansion.
The Seminole Tribe of Florida sued DraftKings and CEO Jason Robins on Oct. 8, alleging the company operates an illegal sports betting business in Florida. The 72-page complaint, filed in Broward County Circuit Court, seeks to shut down DraftKings’ Florida operations, including its Pick6 and Super App products, and recover revenue generated in the state. The tribe holds exclusive rights to sports betting under a 2021 gaming compact with Florida. The lawsuit alleges DraftKings’ prediction-market offerings constitute unauthorized sports wagering and accuses the company of secretly financing previous legal challenges to the compact. Robins also faces allegations of violating Florida’s anti-racketeering law. DraftKings had not responded publicly to the allegations as of Thursday. The tribe said recovered funds would support consumer protection and gambling recovery programs.
