Freshly harvested citrus fills a bin at a Florida grove similar to the Hendry County property sold by Alico Inc. for $26.8 million.

Florida is expected to produce 10 million 90-pound boxes of oranges during the 2026-27 citrus season, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s first crop forecast, released Oct. 9. The USDA also projects production of 1.3 million 85-pound boxes of grapefruit and 450,000 95-pound boxes of tangerines. Florida’s citrus industry contributes approximately $6 billion to the state’s economy, according to the Florida Department of Citrus. “In partnership with our best-in-class research community, Florida citrus remains a significant economic driver in the state of Florida and well-positioned for future investment,” said Shannon Shepp, executive director of the Florida Department of Citrus. The agency oversees citrus marketing, regulation and research.
