A group of Southwest Florida veterans and community leaders is pushing to expand the existing Cape Coral VA clinic into a full-service hospital. The Cape Coral VA Clinic Expansion to a Full-Service Hospital Committee envisions a nine-story, 200-bed hospital at the existing Diplomat Parkway site. The project is estimated to cost $700 million to $1.1 billion. Committee Chair Alan White said congressional approval and federal funding would be required. The group says more than 114,000 veterans live in Southwest Florida, with some traveling about 2½ hours for inpatient services. Next steps include completing a market assessment and feasibility study, WINK News reports.
