The average Floridian makes less than the average median yearly income in the U.S. of around $74,600, but the state ranks 16th among states where people have the highest income, according to a report from personal finance website WalletHub. The site compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key metrics—the average annual income of the top 5%, the average for the bottom 20% and the median for all of each state’s residents. Florida’s top 5% has an average annual income of $470,308, while the median annual income is $68,818, and the average annual income for the bottom 20% is $15,375. Virginia took home the top ranking, followed by New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Washington state.
