New York City-based Hearst Television completed its previously announced $220 million acquisition of WBBH-TV, which broadcasts NBC-2 in the Fort Myers-Naples market, from Waterman Broadcasting Corp. after receiving all regulatory approvals, company officials announced. WBBH-TV first went on the air in December 1968 as the market’s NBC affiliate and has been owned and operated by Waterman since 1978. The sale makes WINK-TV, Southwest Florida’s CBS affiliate, the only family owned and operated TV station in the nation’s 55th-ranked television market. Hearst assumes Waterman‘s programming relationship with Montclair Communications Inc., owner of WZVN-TV, the market’s ABC affiliate. WBBH-TV Vice President and Station Manager Darrel Lieze-Adams will continue in this role and succeed Steve Pontius, who recently announced his retirement, with market oversight, company officials said. In addition to WBBH-TV, Hearst’s Florida stations include WESH-TV and WKCF-TV, NBC and CW affiliates in Orlando; WPBF-TV, ABC affiliate serving West Palm Beach; and WMOR-TV, an independent television station in Tampa-St. Petersburg.
