Closed since being damaged last fall by storm surge from Hurricane Ian, Historic Palm Cottage reopened Tuesday at 137 12th Ave. S., near the Naples Pier. The grand reopening means Naples Historical Society returned to its regular schedule of educational programs, events and tours of the historic cottage, a landmark in the National Register of Historic Places. To celebrate the reopening, free house tours will be available this week from noon to 4 pm. daily through Saturday. Among the highlights are walking the original Dade County pine floors that had to be painstakingly removed plank by plank, dried for months, and then skillfully put back in place. Knowledgeable docents help visitors imagine what it was like to be a guest or resident of the oldest house in Naples at the turn of the century.
