RSW REPORTS RECORD-BREAKING JUNE

During June, 586,319 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers, an increase of 7.4 percent compared to June 2018. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 9.4 percent compared with last year. The traffic leader in June was Delta Air Lines with 153,972 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (123,772), American (95,304), JetBlue (67,932) and United (53,464). Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,804 aircraft operations, a decrease of 1 percent compared to June 2018. Page Field saw 8,583 operations, a 12.4 percent increase from June 2018. In addition, slightly more than 2.6 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in June 2019.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER ANNOUNCED FOR BLUE CHIP COMMUNITY BUSINESS AWARD

Kevin Pearce, champion snowboarder and traumatic brain injury survivor, has been selected as the keynote speaker for the 25th Annual Southwest Florida Blue Chip Community Business Award luncheon ceremony. Coordinated and sponsored by McGriff Insurance Services, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and will recognize small business owners in Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties who have overcome adversity to achieve success. Registration for the event is free and available here. Pearce went from being an Olympic gold medal hopeful to suffering a severe traumatic brain injury that nearly took his life. FORT MYERS CHAMBER LAUNCHES MENTOR PROGRAM

The Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce has introduced EXCELerate, a new program that provides mentoring for business excellence. The community can learn more about the program during an event held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 at The Collaboratory in Fort Myers. EXCELerate connects ambitious advancing professionals and entrepreneurs with practiced business leaders to enhance and elevate each other’s professional and personal development. The Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce provides opportunities for emerging and experienced business professionals to connect and support each other. To become part of the program, mentors and mentees will fill out an application. The Greater Fort Myers Chamber Foundation will match mentors and mentees based on industry, interests and needs. Participants determine their own meeting structure to connect at least 12 times over one year. The introductory event will provide opportunities for mentors and mentees to meet their potential matches through a series of meet-and-greet activities. After interacting with other participants, mentors and mentees can then submit their feedback on preferred matches to facilitate the final pairing process. Admission is free. NAPLES CHAMBER TO HOST MEMBER SHOWCASE

The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce will hold its bi-annual Member Showcase on from 4-7 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Opera Naples. Sponsored by Opera Naples, the Member Showcase at Business After 5 is a chance for community members to learn about products and services offered by chamber members and network with hundreds of other Southwest Florida business professionals. Attendees will be treated to food, refreshing beverages and the chance to be entered to win raffle prizes. A limited number of member showcase booths are still available. Booths include admission for two to the event, recognition on social media and a platform to network with potential customers and other business leaders. The event is open to the public. KITSON NAMED PRESIDENT OF TALIS PARK

Kitson & Partners has named Tyler Kitson as president of Talis Park in Naples. Kitson oversees all aspects of management and operations at Talis Park, leading a team of industry and service professionals that manages every aspect of land development, homebuilding, amenities, and service delivery for the community. Kitson previously managed vertical construction for Kitson & Partners, spearheading construction of the Vyne House, the clubhouse at Talis Park, as well as the new Babcock Neighborhood School and Healthy Life Center at Babcock Ranch. Kitson, who became a licensed real estate professional in 2011, also brings experience in economic development and all aspects of golf management to his new position.  A member of the International Economic Development Council, Kitson also has been a member of the Urban Land Institute and International Council of Shopping Centers. He serves as treasurer of the Babcock Ranch Foundation and as a member of the Babcock Neighborhood School Nominating Committee. Kitson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics from Rollins College and earned a master’s degree in real estate development from NOVA Southeastern University.

 

SHULA’S NAPLES RECOGNIZED FOR WINE 

Shula’s Steak House Naples in the Hilton Naples has been honored for its outstanding wine program in Wine Spectator’s 2019 Restaurant Awards. Shula’s Naples won the Best of Award of Excellence for the fifth consecutive year. Best of Award of Excellence recipients offer exceptional wine lists with extensive wine selections while displaying a deep commitment to wine. Wine Spectator began its program to recognize the world’s best wine lists in 1981. There are three award levels: The Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award. Scott Atwood

ATWOOD ELECTED SECRETARY OF FLORIDA BAR SECTION

The law firm of Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt P.A. Shareholder Scott Atwood was elected secretary/treasurer of the Florida Bar labor and employment section. He is now slated to become president of the labor and employment section in two years. Atwood has been a member of the Florida Bar’s labor and employment section executive council since 2011. In this role, he assists in formulating and implementing legal policy on the state and local level. Atwood is a Florida Supreme Court certified circuit civil mediator and serves as president of the Lee County Bar Association Foundation and vice chair of the Sidney & Berne Davis Arts Center board of directors. He is a member of the University of Florida Law Alumni Council. Atwood received his Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College, with honors, his law degree from the University of Florida College of Law, and his Master of Arts from the College of William & Mary.

Chip in for DLC Golf Tournament Set for October

David Lawrence Center (DLC) will host the sixth annual Chip in for DLC Golf Tournament on Oct. 25 at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club in Naples. The lunch and registration begin at 11:30 a.m., with tee-off set for 1 p.m. The tournament will be played in an 18-hole scramble with four-person teams. Participants who enter as individuals will be placed on a team. Immediately following the tournament will be a casual awards cocktail reception, where spouses, guests and other non-golfers are welcome to join. Individual players are $250 per person and teams are $1,000 per foursome. Awards cocktail reception-only tickets are $50 per person. In addition, golfers may participate in a variety of raffles, skills challenges and a putting contest. All proceeds will benefit DLC’s inpatient, outpatient, residential, and community-based prevention and treatment services. The Chip in for DLC Golf Tournament is hosted by David Lawrence Center in partnership with David Lawrence Center Young Executives. The event is being co-chaired by DLC Young Executives’ Board Members Peter Michaels and Joseph Stusek.
