CLINIC JOINS NATIONAL EFFORTS TO TARGET BLOOD PRESSURE
The Neighborhood Health Clinic has been asked to join the American Heart Association and American Medical Association in addressing high blood pressure (BP) through the Target BPTM program. Target BPTM provides Neighborhood Health Clinic patients living with high BP a free blood pressure cuff, charts to track their BP in the morning and evening, as well as additional batteries for the cuff. As part of the initiative, the clinic’s volunteer licensed registered nurses meet with patients individually to teach proper cuff use and how to track their results. As part of the collaboration, Neighborhood Health Clinic provides the Target BPTM program with resulting data, including total number of patients diagnosed with hypertension, total patient population and the number of patients who’ve successfully gained control of their high blood pressure through the initiative.
LEADERSHIP NEXT TO DISCUSS COMMUNITY’S COLLECTIVE IMPACT TODAY
Leadership NEXT, a monthly program for advancing business professionals, will highlight the impact of a collective approach to entrepreneurial ecosystems during its program held from 5-7 p.m. today at WearTheFund, 93 Mildred Drive, Suite B, in Fort Myers. Led by Sam Lewis, founder of WearTheFund, and Jonathan Romine, program director of SecondMuse, the program will offer a discussion on how entrepreneurial ecosystems thrive when businesses and nonprofits are working together. METTAUER ENVIRONMENTAL A FINALIST FOR TOP FLORIDA COMPANIES TO WATCH
Mettauer Environmental was among the first round of the 2019 Florida Companies to Watch finalists by GrowFL. Mettauer Environmental, based in Southwest Florida, focuses on lake bank and pond erosion repair, vegetation control, civil construction, and invasive species relocation. The business uses eco-friendly products. The GrowFL awards event, now in its ninth year, honors 50 select second-stage companies from throughout the state for developing valuable products and services, creating quality jobs, enriching communities, and broadening new industries throughout Florida. Chosen from 224 growing second-stage participants from throughout, Florida, this year’s applicants had a total revenue of $596 million and more than 3,000 employees. The Florida Companies to Watch program consists of two rounds of selections. Finalists now advance to the second round, where they will be further evaluated. The honorees for this year’s award will be announced in July. The ninth annual Florida Companies to Watch awards celebration will take place on Nov. 14 at Hard Rock Live in Orlando.

Chris Riesen of Inspired Closets of Southwest Florida on July 1 began his one-year term as president of The Rotary Club of Bonita Springs. FRANTZ EYECARE WELCOMES GLAUCOMA SPECIALIST
Frantz EyeCare has hired board-certified glaucoma specialist Dr. Ira Perszyk to its medical team. Perszyk will see patients at all of Frantz EyeCare’s locations throughout Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. Perszyk recently moved to Southwest Florida from Tampa after completing his fellowship in glaucoma at the University of South Florida Medical Center. Prior to his fellowship, he completed his residency at the University of Kentucky Department of Ophthalmology and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Montana. Perszyk is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in the treatment of glaucoma. He will also be performing Cataract Surgery at Frantz EyeCare’s AAAHC accredited Suncoast Surgery Center.

David Lawrence Center receives grant from SWFL Children’s Charities Inc.
SWFL Children’s Charities Inc. awarded David Lawrence Center (DLC) a $226,269 children’s behavioral health grant. SWFL Children’s Charities partnered with SWFL Community Foundation to administer the grant program. This was the first year DLC received funding from the charity. The grant will fund adolescent day treatment and inpatient children’s crisis stabilization services as well as two new positions designed to improve linkage and outreach services. SWFL Children’s Charities raises funds through the Southwest Florida Wine & Food Fest. This year’s event, themed “Making Waves: Building Healthy Minds,” raised $1.79 million to enhance pediatric healthcare services and education programs in the five-county region. DLC was awarded more than half of the $516,775 proceeds raised from this year’s Live Auction Fund-A-Cause, which focused specifically on children’s mental and behavioral health services.

Pediatric Dentistry of Florida is sponsoring the seventh annual Castles for Kids sand sculpting contest presented by the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples. This children-friendly event is held on Aug. 7 at LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in Naples. Teams compete in a classic sand sculpting competition. Awards in multiple categories highlighted by the biggest sculpture to best Florida theme.
