REPORT: MAY HOUSING ACTIVITY YIELDS SOLID MARKET
Overall closed sales in the Naples area totaled 1,024 during May 2018, compared with 1,027 closed sales in May 2017. Closed sales in May 2018 were higher than all months following May 2017. May also saw inventory levels continue to stabilize, according to the May 2018 Market Report released by the Naples Area Board of Realtors (NABOR), which tracks home listings and sales within Collier County (excluding Marco Island). Closed sales of properties in the $300,000 to $500,000 price category during May increased 21 percent over May 2017, while closed sales in the $300,000 and below price category were just one sale short of the number of closed sales in May 2017. May's overall median closed price dropped 5 percent to $337,000 from $355,000 in May 2017. The overall median closed price for homes priced above $500,000 decreased 14 percent to $507,000 from $590,000 in May 2017. On the high-end side of the market, despite an 11 percent increase in median closed prices, pending sales of properties in the $2 million and above price category increased 23 percent in May 2018 compared to May 2017. FIFTH ANNUAL MIXPO TO COMMENCE
The Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce will hold its fifth annual Mixpo event, an after-hours mixer and business expo, from 5-7 p.m. on June 28 at the Crowne Plaza Fort Myers at Bell Tower Shops. JA BUSINESS HALL OF FAME, COLLIER COUNTY ADVISORY BOARD NAMED
Junior Achievement (JA) of Southwest Florida has selected its 2018 Business Hall of Fame, Collier County Advisory Board. The committee will be led by chair, Clay W. Cone, president of Cone Communications Co. The 2018 Business Hall of Fame, Collier County is slated for Nov. 1 at the Naples Grande Beach Resort in Naples. CERTIFIED DIVERSITY PROFESSIONAL PREP COURSE SCHEDULED
In partnership with the Society for Diversity, Hodges University will host a three-day Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) prep course from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. July 18-20 at the university’s Fort Myers campus. Diversity officers, practitioners, consultants, human resource personnel and individuals working in the field of diversity and inclusion are encouraged to register. Candidates must pass the uniform exam and meet experience requirements in order to receive CDP certification through the Institute of Diversity Certification (IDC). Experience may include working in a variety of fields such as diversity, human resources, recruiting, strategic planning, consulting and more. The IDC designates the following requirements for the CDP credential: at least two years of experience, a passing score of at least 80 percent on the CDP exam, and completion of a candidate project. The cost to attend is $3,999 for nonmembers and $3,199 for Society for Diversity members. If three or more participants from the same organization register for the course, the cost is $2,799. A study guide, preparation course, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments, candidate project and CDP exam are included in the cost. ELMQUIST EYE GROUP TO RELOCATE
Elmquist Eye Group will relocate its Fort Myers operations in January 2019, with plans to begin renovations on its future Fort Myers medical office in late July 2018. The new 7,000-square-foot office is located at 7970 Summerlin Lakes Drive in Fort Myers, just 1.5 miles from its existing office. The larger space will help Elmquist Eye Group serve an additional 250 patients per week, and the practice plans to increase its team members to accommodate the growth and needs of their patients. Elmquist Eye Group’s new office will introduce an expanded procedure room for patient care and also enlarge its optical boutique. The renovation project will be completed by Stevens Construction with design by Practice Flow Solutions and Southview Studios, LLC. The project includes a complete interior renovation and exterior façade upgrade, designed with the highest of medical-practice efficiency. CONSERVANCY INSTALLS ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING STATIONS
The Conservancy of Southwest Florida has partnered with Tesla to introduce electric vehicle charging stations at the Conservancy Nature Center, 1495 Smith Preserve Way in Naples. Offering six charging stations—four exclusively for Tesla vehicles and two for universal use—the charging service is available to the public at no cost. Drivers can access the stations during Nature Center hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The electric vehicle charging stations are located in the southwest portion of the Conservancy campus, in parking lot B. With equipment funded and installed by Tesla, the Conservancy is now also listed on Tesla’s online charging destination map at www.tesla.com/destination-charging.
Sunset cruise set for July
The Bourbon Onboard sunset cruise will take place on July 11 aboard the Naples Princess to benefit Collier Child Care Resources Inc. Boarding begins at 6:15 p.m. Carving stations and heavy hors d’oeuvres from Shula’s Steak House Naples (ShulasNaples.com) will be paired with bourbon provided on the cruise.
