CLEAR VISIONARIES:  The Daubmanns have ventured from frameless shower doors into other products, such as glass ornaments.

The ornaments started off as an idea for a giveaway, just a nice keepsake for customers during the holidays. Now, it may be a whole new business venture for the Daubmanns.

Bill and Donna Daubmann’s company MY Shower Door/D3 Glass is one of the fastest-growing companies in the country with nine locations in Florida. They make frameless shower doors, but have ventured out into other products, including glass ornaments. Using the machinery in their Fort Myers headquarters and manufacturing plant, the Daubmanns found the ornaments with holiday imagery rather easy to cut out. They’re considering selling them online this season.

“We love coming up with new ideas. After all, we’ve got 110 mouths to feed here,” says Bill, referring to the workforce.

Adds Donna: “We’ve got 110 creative minds here.”

The company got its start in 2003 after the Daubmanns moved from western Massachusetts. They’ve grown it on both Florida coasts, have six affiliate stores across the country and have done glass work for Disney hotels and the Hertz headquarters. For the fifth time in six years, Inc. magazine has placed My Shower Door on its list of 5,000 fastest-growing companies. Last year, their revenue totaled $17.8 million, an 8.5% increase from the year before.

Part of their growth comes from their desire to stretch beyond their core product. During the pandemic, they started producing protective glass partitions. They’ve been making idea boards, back-painted glass that can be used like a chalkboard in schools. Their most recent investment is a machine that allows them to make laminated glass, or two sheets of glass with thin plastic in between that makes it shatter-proof. “We look at a product out there and say, ‘How can we do it? How can we make it better?’” Bill says. “We’re always looking to grow.”
