Florida has long been a relocation destination for Americans. That’s still been the case post-pandemic, but it’s only accelerated—and the origins of these new residents are shifting.
According to recent U.S. Census data, about 739,000 new Floridians arrived from out of state (compared to 490,000 leaving) in 2022. That’s been on the rise since about 601,000 new residents came in 2019.
Previously, Northerners were arriving from such states as Pennsylvania, Illinois and Ohio. They still are. But the Northeast—New York and New Jersey, in particular—is making up a greater percentage of new residents. The state saw a spike of residents from California, as well.
