Plans for a contested church in Collier County are moving forward. On Thursday, the issue jumped one hurdle, but it still has another to go. The Collier County Planning Commission voted 5-2 to allow Iglesia Pentacostes Penial church to be built on the corner of Eighth Street Northeast and 22nd Avenue Northeast in Golden Gate Estates, but Collier County commissioners will have the ultimate decision whether the new church can find a home in the residential neighborhood. The 5,000-square-foot church would offer services on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Area residents who don’t want the church built there complain that traffic and noise would disrupt an otherwise quiet neighborhood, WINK News reports
