A new business in East Naples offers an interesting recreational activity that is kind of similar to bowling or darts, but instead of tossing darts or bowling balls, participants throw axes and hatchets at targets. Swamp Axe Co., the Naples area’s only indoor ax-throwing venue, opened this month on Linwood Avenue across the street from Naples Opera. The business offers six caged ax–throwing lanes for one-hour or two-hour sessions. A single lane can be reserved for up to four players or multiple lanes can be booked for a special event such as a birthday party, bachelorette outing or business team-building function. Booking online and signing a waiver ahead of time is encouraged. The theme inside is based around the swamps of Collier County. Everglades creatures are displayed and hidden throughout the space and the logo for Swamp Axe features an ax-wielding skunk ape riding a Florida panther. It’s a BYOB establishment during its soft opening but it soon plans to offer beer, wine and an occasional food truck. Swamp Axe Co., 2487 Linwood Ave., is open 4 to10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and another day is expected to be added in season.
