The Naples Press, a locally owned community newspaper for Naples and Collier County audiences, launched this week.
Its mission is to provide hyper-local business, real estate and arts and entertainment coverage focusing solely on Naples, Marco Island and surrounding communities.
“Tim Aten Knows,” a popular weekly column that chronicles business openings and closings, as well as answers to readers’ business-related questions, will appear in The Naples Press alongside arts and entertainment coverage from veteran journalist Harriet Howard Heithaus, who is well-known in her own right among Collier County residents. Local cartoonist Doug MacGregor will add to the stable of talent.
Scott Toner, the press operator’s technical relations manager, said The Naples Press is the only printed product on their roster to use peach-colored paper. The color was first used by the Financial Times in England dating back to the late 1800s.
“It’s very interesting that The Naples Press also has decided to use the peach paper to make it stand out among all the others,” said Toner, a second-generation printer. He said it’s the first peach-colored newspaper he has seen in more than 20 years. “It’s very exciting to see this come back again.”
A weekly, subscription-only publication, The Naples Press is printed in Venice and distributed on Fridays directly to mailboxes.
Subscriptions start at $20 for three months, $60 for a year and $100 for two years, which is less than $1 per issue. Commercial subscriptions also are available for companies seeking to order five or more copies each week.
