TICKET DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR INDUSTRY APPRECIATION AWARDS
The deadline is approaching to purchase tickets for the Horizon Council, Horizon Foundation and Lee County Economic Development Office 2019 Industry Appreciation Awards, honoring businesses that have positively influenced Southwest Florida. Doors open and networking begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch and the awards program from about 12:30-1:30 p.m., on Oct. 25 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa. Winners will be announced in five categories. The finalists are: Community Steward of the Year – Sullivan State Farm Agencies, Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Co., and Cushman & Wakefield Commercial Properties. Innovator of the Year – AXI International, HONC Destruction and Lamar Advertising. Manufacturer of the Year – Golden Manufacturing, HF Scientific and MY Shower Door / D3 Glass. Startup of the Year – Architectural Metal Flashings and Creative Architectural Resin Products. Business of the Year awards will be given in two categories. Small business finalists are Chris-Tel Construction, Edison National Bank and ITVantage. Large business finalists are MY Shower Door / D3 Glass, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank and Scotlynn USA Division. Tickets are $50 and include networking, lunch and the awards presentation. REPORT: NAPLES NO. 1 PLACE TO RETIRE IN FLORIDA
Naples tops the list on SmartAsset’s Best Places to Retire in Florida list. The study is based on factors related to taxes, healthcare and social options. Naples had a rating of 13.7% tax, 28.1 doctors’ offices per 1,000 people, 9.8 recreation centers per 1,000 people, 1.1 retirement centers per 1,000 people, 51.5% of seniors, and Best Place to Retire Index 100. ‘TROUBLED WATERS’ DOCUMENTARY TO PREMIERE IN NAPLES
Calusa Waterkeeper will premiere the documentary TROUBLED WATERS in Naples. The event, from 7-9 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Silverspot Cinema Mercato, will also feature a panel of experts, all of whom appear in the film, discussing the findings in the movie as well as health and environmental impacts of blue-green algae cyanobacteria blooms and red tide. The panelists are John Cassani, Calusa Waterkeeper; Dr. Paul Alan Cox, The Brain Chemistry Labs; Holley Rauen, RN, Calusa Waterkeeper ranger and co-founder, Pachamama Alliance of SWFL; Dr. Howard Simon, retired, the American Civil Liberties; and Dr. Robert S. Zarranz, private practice otolaryngologist. Schulberg will introduce the movie and panelists. The Naples premiere is co-hosted by Harrison Langley, the Collier County Waterkeeper (CCWK). The screening is also co-hosted by Silverspot Cinema and the film is co-directed by Cat Chase. Tickets are available at silverspot.net. A portion of proceeds from the event support Calusa Waterkeeper’s mission to protect and restore the Caloosahatchee River from Lake Okeechobee to the coastal waters.
