A new Babcock Ranch community being developed by Meritage Homes received approval from the Charlotte County Board of Commissioners to proceed with the second phase of Crescent Lakes, which will consist of 173 single-family lots and three tracts.

The site comprises more than 39 acres south of Bermont Road, north of the Lee County line, west of the Glades County line and east of Bluebird Trail.

Engineer and general contractor Carl A. Barraco Jr. represented the applicant at the meeting where there were no public comments concerning the subdivision, located within the boundary of the Babcock Ranch Community Development of Regional Impact Increment 2.

When built out, Babcock Ranch will have some 19,500 single-family residences in its 18,000-acre community. More than 2,500 homes already have been built, and there is about 6 million square feet of commercial space.

Currently, nine builders are in the community, six of which, including Meritage Homes, are building residential units in the newest neighborhood, MidTown.

MidTown hosted its grand opening Oct. 28.
