Motorists traveling Alligator Alley will no longer be able to pay tolls with cash beginning Aug. 3, as the Florida Department of Transportation converts the 78-mile stretch of Interstate 75 between Collier County and Broward County to all-electronic tolling.
Drivers can pay using SunPass, another Florida-accepted transponder or Toll-By-Plate, which bills vehicle owners by mail.
FDOT said the change is intended to improve traffic flow by eliminating cash transactions at toll plazas.
Alligator Alley has two main toll plazas, with passenger vehicles paying $3.18 at each plaza, depending on where they enter or exit the highway.
