A spike in canceled or delayed flights worldwide that began during the holiday weekend continued Tuesday. Nearly 800 flights were canceled Tuesday in the United States, while more than 1,000 were delayed because of weather or staffing issues. Fourteen flights destined for Southwest Florida International Airport and 11 flights scheduled to depart Fort Myers were canceled Tuesday morning. Another 40 arriving flights and 11 departing flights were delayed. Both incoming and outgoing local flights connecting Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Newark, New York, Seattle, Toronto and White Plains, New York, were canceled Tuesday. Arrivals from Charlotte and St. Louis also were canceled. Despite these cancellations and delays, the majority of RSW flights were on time Tuesday, according to FlightAware data.
