United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades now offers mental health resources for clients in Clewiston. After a nearly $200,000 grant from the Hanley Foundation, in collaboration with the Florida Department of Children and Families, the nonprofit agency opened its new United Way House on April 1. Located inside the Hendry County Sub-Office, the new offices are staffed by a mental health resource specialist who assists clients in finding the right providers for their mental health needs. United Way Partner Agencies also will utilize the offices on off days to provide various other services. Hanley received the Criminal Justice Mental Health Substance Abuse Implementation Grant from DCF several years ago. It then worked with Hendry County stakeholders and United Way for three years, determining the best way to implement the grant for mental health services. United Way was awarded the three-year implementation grant, which covers the cost of office space and the salary of the full-time resource specialist. As the program sees success, three-year expansion grants can be applied for in the future.
