Cape Coral ups impact fees for new construction

Cape Coral is raising impact fees on new residential and commercial construction to pay for police, fire, advanced life support services and parks and recreation facilities. They are one-time fees that developers pay to meet public infrastructure needs incurred by their developments.

On March 25, council members agreed to increase impact fees each year for four years beginning July 1. The fees are set to increase by the same dollar amount each year based on a 12.5% increase over current fees.

For example, a single-family residence of less than 30,000 square feet will pay $290.21 more beginning in July or $2,611.87, an increase of $74.57 for police, $71.87 for fire, $4.39 for advanced life support and $139.38 for parks and recreation. A commercial facility with 65,000 square feet will pay $2,567.50 more, or $23,133.50.
